Nice work, Natter. Would have liked to have seen this as really Featured, though. Perhaps Anthony can make that happen.

Thanks for the feedback and links, much appreciated. As we are new to this site have a couple of questions:

Don’t you get points for articles?

Also: the guidelines/FAQ seem pretty vague. Is there a more extensive guide to GNN guidelines / structure somewhere?

Some of the headlines are republished main stories from large media sites like the BBC – is this OK? Seems like if the story already has that sort of coverage their is no need to replicate it here unless it takes an interesting new angle or reveals less well known information?

hahaha..

Welcome to GNN, Natter. You’ll fit in nicely.

Yes – the FAQ are vague. No, there is no other extensive guide to inform you of certain guidelines set down by the owners of this site.

See here for points/ranks info.

Absolutely – you should have received 10 points.

guess there was just a time delay on the points. how about my last question – anyone have an opinion:

a point I raised long ago

you get a point for a copy/paste job (headline) but not for a well written blog

I guess it all comes down to the summary, but sometimes that’s a copy/paste job as well…

jack….my opinion is that if you want to republish something from the bbc, go for it. a lot of us here at gnn shy away from the bbc or cnn, and so its definitly worth it to republish a bbc piece here if you think its important, as a headline, that is. be sure to critique the piece as necessary in the summary and even provide links to more information sources.

in the context of you prison news roundup, bbc articles are more than fine being that your roundup should try to be as inclusive as possible.

I would suggest for the roundup that you compact the paragraphs into as few as possible, even though youre mixing quotes and stuff, but it reads better when the graphs are short…especially if the graphs come from the same source.
also, the roundup is a chance to mix in other news sources to the text copied. for example:

“The ‘Cells of Incendiary Solidarity’ (Pirines Empristikis Allileggyis) claim responsibility for the arson at Eurobank on Trion Ierarhon Street in Petralona, on Saturday January 19, in solidarity to the imprisoned anarchist Vaggelis Botzatzis, accused with 3 arson attacks against governmental-economic targets and to the three companions that are fugitive under the same case.” (EF! Action Reports 19/01/08)

here what you could do would be to find a site with more info about Vaggelis Botzatzis and link his name to it….

Yes I question why I previously escaped from gnn considering how cushy it is here. Thanks.
