they better not put all the youtube videos onto google video servers… They don’t serve China yet. fuckers.

This headline is really misleading – the purchase hasn’t been made yet. Also, why does COA news have a profile on GNN???

More importantly, what’s to be done about short subject video monopoly? I use YouTube because I noticed more and more political content showing up on it. I don’t want my materials subjected to over corporatizing. Now what?

I’ve been saving anything I found cool on youtube because I’d have to assume it’ll go the way of the other big sites around….
I remember when Ifilm and atomfilms used to be cool… There used to be a kick ass site that played old films for free and you could buy better content. Used to watch great B movies for free at work all the time… kicked ass.

We have a profile on GNN for the same reason everyone else does – to share important media with the community. COA News is actually a project that was to a large degree inspired by GNN, when I started it I asked the community to give me input and ideas etc… So I’ve basically stayed somewhat active in community since before COA News began – 2 yrs ago

About the video monopoly – I would recommend using Ourmedia.org – there technology/social networking ability it not the best, but they are open source and non-profit.
However, I don’t think they allow coprighted material to be uploaded.

That’s cool. Thanks for letting me know about the COA thing too – with all the buzz of 3v1l psy-ops ‘round here, ya never kwno.
Seriously, though – i’ll check out ourmedia. I just can’t get over the fact though, that on YouTube I can post a video and two days later it’s been watched a hundred times. Very convenient. I wish I had the know how to set up a GNN-type site for vloggers, especially at the local level, if there were a few more of them.
Thanks for the info!

At least it wasn’t the News Corporation. All in all, I wouldn’t exactly lump google in with other megacorporations (though I suppose I would lump Disney in that group, heh). It certainly isn’t a good thing, but it’s to be expected these days. For the average user, I doubt very much will change. And for those who were using youtube for more controversial material that may be monitored too closely or even censored, there will be other sites.
